DAVID HARDEN. PERCUSSION.

DAVID HARDEN. PERCUSSION.

David Harden began playing music in the 3rd grade, and got his first kit at age 14. In the late 70s, inspired by the music of Bob Marley, Robert Palmer, and Dire Straights, that spark led David to gain his first real experience as a performer and collaborator, playing party bands throughout high school. Eventually, with his first new pair of bongos, David was jamming with local jazz musicians during the Nice Jazz Festival.

As the years unfolded, David went on to play with local bar bands in Boulder Colorado like Zoa and Lost Boys, each stop adding to their musical vocabulary. His most memorable gig was in Eldorado Springs on a Halloween night in the mid 80s, where 500 fully costumed souls including the band were thrilled to welcome to the stage, counterculture icon, Timothy Leary as a surprise guest. By 1987, David shifted his focus to his osteopathic medical education, giving up his kit and playing hand drums as a hobby instead until 2010. This time helped sharpen David’s feel for percussion and deepen his connection to the music, occasionally playing at Unity Youth Rallies for his wife’s work.

In the early 2000s, David met Eli Williams when he saw him play in Blue Mule. The connection eventually led to an invitation to add some rhythm to Eli’s other band, Jazzalachian Playboys where David’s brother-in-law played bass. Eventually the band, Leonard Blush and the Camelcals was born from members of the same group when Eli wanted to further explore the percussive elements David added to their sound. Since becoming part of the band, David continues to bring creativity to the shared vision, pushing the music of Leonard Blush forward in its current western swing direction.
